The League of American Bicyclists has assembled the following team for the Boston Bikes Summit:

John Ciccarelli. John Ciccarelli, the principal of Bicycle Solutions, is a planning, design, infrastructure and education consultant. He has had senior roles in the development of bicycle transportation master plans for cities, counties, the San Francisco Bay Area, and San Jose Airport. He has produced striping and signing plans for street corridors throughout California, and developed the Expressway Bicycle Accommodation Guidelines for Santa Clara County (Silicon Valley). From 1999 through 2005 he was a statewide engineering evaluator with UC Berkeley’s Traffic Safety Evaluation (TSE) program, reviewing over 45 cities. Between 1995 and 1998 John was Stanford University’s first Bicycle Program Manager, where he developed and administered a $650,000 bicycle facilities program that installed 3,000 bike rack spaces and 500 secure commuter bike spaces. John has developed and led bicycle planning and design workshops throughout California, and co-created a one-day bicycle planning class for Caltrans. He is a member of the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices - Bicycle Technical Committee (NCUTCD-BTC), which advises FHWA on improvements to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), a member of ITE, the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP), and a Life Member of the League of American Bicyclists (LAB). He is an experienced street cyclist and a League Cycling Instructor.

Andy Clarke (lead). Andy Clarke was appointed to the position of Executive Director in April of 2004 after successfully leading efforts to create, interpret and implement the various transportation programs that are available to improve conditions for bicycling and walking as the League’s State and Local Advocacy Director. Before joining the League in February 2003, Clarke was on contract to provide technical assistance to the highly regarded Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center on site at the Federal Highway Administration. In addition to his strong policy background, Clarke has managed a range of bicycle and pedestrian planning projects at the state and metropolitan levels and has worked extensively with state and local advocacy groups.

Nick Jackson. Nick Jackson is the Deputy Director at the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation. Since 1999, Nick has been a project manager for the Chicago’ Bikeway program. As the lead designer, Nick has been responsible for the planning and designed over 70 miles of new bike lanes. As a project manager, Nick also has extensive experience presenting proposed bike lanes to community and business organizations and responding to local concerns voiced at meetings regarding bicycling safety, education and enforcement. Nick conceived and conducts guided bicycle tours for transportation engineers and planners. Recently Nick was he consultant project manger for the development of Chicago’s long-range bicycle plan, the Bike 2015 Plan. This visionary document will provide policy and program direction for all of the city and state agencies which impact bicycling in Chicago.

Steve Madden. Steve Madden, who joined Rodale in 2001, serves as Editor-in-Chief of Bicycling and supervises the editorial staff of Mountain Bike. During Madden’s tenure, Bicycling has earned three National Magazine Award nominations, the highest editorial honor in the industry, in the past four years: for General Excellence in 2004, for Leisure Interests in 2006 and for Personal Service in 2007. Madden is a former Sports Illustrated Senior Editor and the Founding Editor of OutdoorExplorer. He was also a reporter and columnist for Fortune, staff writer for M, and Editor and Publisher of Cornell. Madden grew up in Dorchester.

Jeffrey Rosenblum, P.E. In 2005, Jeff Rosenblum co-founded the Boston-based urban planning advocacy group LivableStreets Alliance advocating for an urban transportation system for Boston that creates a connected, livable city. LivableStreets challenges people to think differently and to demand a system that balances transit, walking, and biking with automobiles. Mr. Rosenblum has 15 years experience in consulting, research, training & education, public policy, and community advocacy at the intersection of environment, business, and community engagement. He is an independent consultant with domestic and international experience, especially in the developing world. He has worked with Cadmus Group, Urban Institute, Institute for Transportation and Development Policy, Tellus Institute, Glatting Jackson, and the Institute for Human Centered Design.

Jennifer Toole, AICP, ASLA. Jennifer Toole is a nationally-recognized leader in multi-modal planning and design, providing expert consultation on bicycle and pedestrian projects throughout the United States. She established Toole Design Group to bring together like-minded professionals who take a creative approach to modern transportation and urban design issues, and has since built a growing, multi-disciplinary practice with a reputation for outstanding quality and unwavering focus on clients’ needs. Over the course of her career, Ms. Toole has been involved in several national publications, including AASHTO’s first edition of the Guide to the Planning, Design and Operation of Pedestrian Facilities. In addition, she served three terms as the President of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP). When not busy running her growing company, she volunteers her time to organize Walk to School Day at her children’s elementary school in Columbia, MD.
